GENERAL COMMENTS
"ኣንጋረ ፈላስፋ": The Talk of the Philosophers carries the photos of the late Emperor Haile Selassie and his wife, the late Empress Etege-Menen. Religious and related books published after his downfall in 1994 carry the photos of the patriarch of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church. These are 1) Abune Takla-Haymanot (1918-1988), period of reign(1971-1988), 2) Abune Merkorios (1938-2022), period of reign (1988 - 2022). Abune Merkorios was exiled from 1991 until 2018 and replaced by 3) Abune Paulos (Ph.D) (1936-2012), period of reign (1992-2012), 4) Abune Mathias (1941 - ), period of reign (2013 - present). English and Amharic school books published before 1974 showed on the first pages the photos of the emperor and his wife. I remember this clearly from childhood period. I have some examples at home here in The Netherlands. Some of the religious books of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church (ErOTC) published after it became autocephalous in 1998 carry photo's of the reigning patriarch, while some books show only the photos of the author, the translator. There are also books without any photo. The list of the Eritrean patriarchs: 1. Abune Phillipos (1901-2002), reign (1999-2001), 2. Abune Yacob (1924-2003), reign (2002 - 2003), 3. Abune Antonios (1929 - 2022), reign (2004-2006): deposed by the Eritrean government for opposing 1) government interference in church affairs and 2) the arrest of church scholars and clergies without any due process of law. Died in prison after 16 years arrest, 4. Abune Dioskoros (1937-2015), reign (2007 - 2015), reign disputed by the followers of Abune Antonios, 5. Abune Qerlos ( ), reign June 13, 2021 - present ), reign disputed by the followers of Abune Antonios,
