GENERAL COMMENTS
This liturgical service book was prepared "by the order of" the Religious Council of the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul. It is for Khachverats, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, celebrated by the Armenian Church on the Sunday closest to the 14th of September. The booklet includes the service for the "Antasdan" service, a dynamic processional service that occurs several times during the year on major feasts and the evening service associated with the feast. In addition to liturgical direction and text, the booklet contains the service translated into Modern Western Armenian. A preface by V. Rev. Fr. Tatoul Anoushian and a "How and Why" section by Dn. Vagharshag Seropyan (now Fr. Hovagim) explain the history of the service, the meaning of the feast, and the background to the publication. Both prefaces are marked as written in 2009 from the Island of Kinali. The dedication says that its publication was realized by the Nersesyan Choir of the Island of Kinali on the 140th anniversary of Gomidas Vartabed's birth, who "came to reside on the Island and sang to the Glory of God under the arches of the church."
