GENERAL COMMENTS
Important documentation on the early years of the European diocese, that was the origin of the current separate dioceses in the Netherlands and Germany. It was carried mostly by Mor Julius Yeshu Çiçek himself (in later years with the support of Gabriel Rabo), and was discontinued after Mor Julius' death in 2005. The last issue (2005/147) commemorates the death of Mor Julius and included - in addition to praise for his works in various forms (both in prose and poetry) also a solid overview of his life and work by Gabriel Rabo. It also includes a poem by Mor Julius himself, of which I quote the final strophe + refrain [p. 101, reprint from Kolo Suryoyo 1993]: In the writing of books I love you / in you I, a Suryoyo, am born and baptized In the building of souls I exalt you / in you I, a Suryoyo, was taught and promoted [in the priesthood] In the embellishment of churches I praise you / in you I, a Suryoyo, am [made] firm and steadfast In the spreading of books I adorn you / in you I, a Suryoyo, will die and be buried Refr: I delight in you, my Syriac church [`edty suryoyto]
