CONTENT DESCRIPTION
Aravodyan Jamerkutiwn (Morning Service/Matins) of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Abbreviated service in Classical Armenian and transcription. Translation of the Divine Liturgy into French.

GENERAL COMMENTS
The volume contains an abbreviated service of the Aravodyan Jamerkutiwn, the "Morning Service" or "Matins" of the Armenian Apostolic Church. With facing transcription into Latin characters. Transcription prepared by Aharon Der-Aharonian. A French translation of the Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Apostolic Church by Père Bedros Kassardjian follows the Matins. The translation is preceded by a brief introduction to the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Divine Liturgy, written by the translator. The volume begins with dedications of/from Holy Etchmiadzin; the Catholicos of All Armenians at the time (Vazken I); Patriarch Yeghishe Derderian of Jerusalem; Patriarch Shnork Kaloustyan of Constantinople; Archbishop Serovpe Manougian, the "Catholicosal Legate of the Armenians in Europe and Archbishop of the Armenians of Paris"; The St. John the Baptist Armenian Cathedral in Paris; the St. Sahak-Mesrop Cathedral in Marseille; and the St. James Cathedral in Lyon. Archbishop Serovpe Manoukian gives an official imprimatur as the "Légat Catholicossal des Arméniens d'Europe." A short Armenian/French bilingual text on "L'origine de l'eglise armenienne apostolique" appears before a foreward in Armenian, transcription, and French by "Le transcriptuer" (Aharonian). A "Prononciation Française de L'Alphabet Armenien" and "Notions utiles pour la lecture" immediately precede the text of the Matins. The first part of the dedication by Aharonian reads: "Esteemed Believer, We prepared this prayerbooklet in the belief that it might be helpful for the French-Armenian youth, and especially those who love and respect the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church and its Holy services." The full title is as follows: "Կիրակնօրեաց Առաւօտեան Ժամերգութիւն եւ Խորհուրդ Սուրբ Պատարագի ըստ Արարողութեան Հայաստանեայց Առաքելական Ուղղափառ Սուրբ Եկեղեցւոյ, Պատրաստեց Ահարոն Տէր-Ահարոնեան" / "Guiraguenoria Aravodian Jamerkoutioun Yev Khorhourt Sourp Badaraki Esd Araroghoutian Hayasdaniayts Arakelagan Oughghapar Sourp Yegueghestsvo" / "Chants Liturguiques et Mystere du Saint Sacrifice (du Dimance Matin) Selon le rite de la Sainte Eglise Apostolique Aremenienne, Transcription par Aharon Der-Aharonian."
