GENERAL COMMENTS
In this volume Mor Julius Ishu Cicek, in 1981 SO metropolitan of NW Europe, collected, edited, and wrote this volume of poems, mostly from the period of the genocide ('sayfo') in 1914-1915, but including one poem on the pillage of Tur Abdin in 1714, by priest Yuhannnn d-Beth Sabrino (d. 1729). It further includes a memro by priest Gergis of Beth Zabdai (Cizre) of 1847; by monk Yuhanon Kafroyo, 1914, by Gallo Shabo of `Ainwardo, 1915, priest Yawsef Shahin, two anonymous hymns on events in Beth Zabdai in 1964 (including the death of Ishaq Ya`qub and his sons); by kuryo Na`man Aydin, on events in 1941-42; and by priest Yuhanon from `Aynwardo on the slaughter of Armenians and Syriacs of Amid in 1895. It was published by the metropolitanate in the Netherlands, probably before Bar Ebroyo Verlag was officially started.
